Lisa Howze Announces State House Run

By Rob St. Mary November 10th, 2009

A Detroit City Council candidate who lost last week’s election is making a run for a state office.

Lisa Howze placed 10th in last week’s council election. This week, she is announcing a run for State Representative in 2010. Howze is eyeing the second district seat which is currently filled by Lamar Lemmons, Junior. Lemmons will lose the seat due to term limits next year.

Howze says many Detroiters have told her they supported her run for council.

“And wanted to make sure I stayed engaged in the process. Given that and my commitment to the City of Detroit, I saw this as an opportunity where I could become even more engaged in my local community and serve on a state level.”

Howze says the concerns of the eastside district are much the same as the rest of Detroit – including blight, foreclosed homes and police response times.

Howze says she has received the endorsements of several veteran and newly elected officials including City Council President-elect Charles Pugh.
